Orlando, FL – February 04, 2018 The Indian American Chamber of Commerce Orlando (IACC) led Orlando’s 6th annual India Day 2018 Celebration in Downtown Orlando on February 3rd. The event was a successful celebration of cultural diversity at the Amway Center. More than seven thousand people took part in the Street Fest, the Orlando Magic game, and India Day entertainment before, during and after the game.
Broad support for the 6th Annual India Day 2018 Celebration was shown. Mayor Dyer presented the 4th Orlando India Day Proclamation. Orlando Magic fans supported the event with more than seven thousand group ticket sales and several suite sales for the big game against the Wizards. The Inaugural 3 on 3 basketball tournament, played on the Magic court, featured some impressive amateur action.
Several corporate sponsors joined the IACC to cheer on the Magic, and they attended the VIP reception. Government Officials attending the game included: Orange County Commissioner - Pete Clark; Seminole County Commissioner - Lee Constantine; Orlando City Commissioner - Tony Ortiz; Orange County Commissioner - Victoria Siplin; Orange County Property Appraiser - Rick Singh; Representing Governor Scott's Office: Ken Lawson - CEO of Visit Florida; Representing Senator Bill Nelson's Office: Eisele Ibarra; and Former State Senator - Gary Siplin.
IACC President Yog Melwani said, “The Indian American Chamber of Commerce leadership team thanks Central Florida for its strong support of India Day 2018. We believe the event is a great way to celebrate cultural diversity in Orlando and to recognize the heritage of Indian Americans living in Central Florida.” Yog Melwani and Dr. Amish Parikh were the India Day Co-Chairs.
The event is a commemoration of India's Republic Day, honoring the date when India’s Constitution went into effect. The IACC- Orlando thanks the Orlando Magic for their continuing partnership on the annual event. The NBA has recognized the India Day Celebration in Orlando as the Best Heritage Night in the NBA.
The 6th Annual India Day 2018 Celebration Street Fest featured a variety of dance performances. Attendees had a chance to learn more about IACC Membership, Henna, Yoga, and "How to Tie" Saris & Turbans. Music fans enjoyed the Pre- & Post-Game concerts featuring International Singer/Songwriter Raghav. Pictures and videos are available on the IACC Facebook page.
